As part of our research and planning, we wrote a questionnaire with questions based around the Indie genre and asked a random selection of people.
The questions were :
1 - What colours do you usually link with the Indie Rock / Pop type of music?
2 - Name 5 Indie bands which you think present what the Indie genre is all about
3 - Where are you most likely to hear Indie music?
4 - What does Indie music usually make you feel? Do you link the genre with a specific emotion?
5 - Do you think there is a typical Indie listener? What characteristics do they usually have?

The questions were written by Becky.

Double Page Spread

A double page spread of an article in Mojo Magazine, showing us how to continue on with our own magazine... It shows that codes and conventions carry on throught a magazine to constantly keep a reader intrested and involved. Keeping it 'Indie' is important for contrubution of a magazine as it keep an audience hooked. - Becky

This is a double page spread of Rihanna from a music magazine. I have analysed three main parts of the article. Christie

A Indie Music Magazine... MOJO!

An analysis of a indie music magazine that will help us plan our own magazine with common codes and conventions of 'typical' indie music. We have broken down all elements the indie magazine showing what makes it indie and how it will apeal to our target audience. Becky

This is my analysis of the front cover of an Alternative Press Magazine issue with Yellowcard as the main image. I have analysed different aspects of the front cover on different slides. Christie

Preliminary Task- Magazine Cover.

Improvements
The text is extreamly important as it needs to be bold and easy to read to apeal to the audience and the comsumer. On my Music magazine, i should go for a much easier text to read but that had a personality that matches with our hippy/indie genre.

A non-busy background will work much better on a magazine cover! So on my next cover opt for a simple one colour background, black white or red (typical music representation colours) to make it seem for appealing to potential buyers.

Use more infomation on the frount cover to intise the audience in and give them an insite on what the magazine is about... keep them wanting more- this will boost sales as people will want to know more about what you touched on in the cover page. Becky

This is my college magazine front cover. Improvements I would make would be to compose the photograph better so that the layout of the magazine cover could be more aesthetically pleasing, e.g. I would place the christmas tree in a different place so that it had more of a purpose in the background. Also I would use more appealing text for the sell lines so that the magazine would attract students, and use a different colour scheme. Christie

Mood Board

Finding Codes & Conventions for our chosen Genre; Indie pop/rock/R&B.
This is our second mood board which shows the sub genre of Indie - Indie Pop. This sub genre appears much more colourful than the genre as a whole
This was our Indie R&B mood board.
This is our indie Rock mood board.

We found that bright colours, outside environment, acoustic intruments and a calm rock look was typical to indie artists and followers.

Choosing our Genre...

This was to help me decide what type of genre we would use for magazine analysis. It was used for brainstorming Indie code and conventions.
